Prompt of the Week ๐ง
Cash Flow Stress Test โ Find out how many months of runway you really have before you panic-cut the wrong thing.
Most founders only model the optimistic case, then scramble when revenue slips or a big invoice goes late. Run this before your next board meeting, budget cycle, or anytime the market gets shaky so you act on numbers instead of fear.
Prompt:
You are my CFO. I'm going to give you our financials and you'll stress-test our cash position across three scenarios, then tell me exactly what to do. Here's our situation: - Cash in bank: [AMOUNT] - Monthly recurring revenue: [AMOUNT] - Monthly fixed costs (payroll, rent, software, etc.): [AMOUNT] - Monthly variable costs: [AMOUNT] - Largest single customer as % of revenue: [%] - Outstanding receivables and when they're expected: [LIST] - Any expected large one-off costs in the next 6 months: [LIST] Do the following: 1. Calculate my current monthly burn and exact runway in months at today's numbers. 2. Model three scenarios over the next 6 months: (a) Base case, (b) Stress case where revenue drops 25% and my largest customer churns, (c) Severe case where revenue drops 40% and a key receivable is paid 60 days late. Show the month-by-month cash balance for each. 3. Identify the single point where I run out of cash in each scenario, and the earliest warning signal I'd see before it happens. 4. Give me a prioritized cut list: which costs to reduce first, second, and third to extend runway by 3+ months, with the runway impact of each and a flag on anything that would damage revenue or morale. 5. Recommend the 3 leading indicators I should put on a weekly dashboard so I never get surprised again. Ask me for any missing number before you run the analysis. Be direct. I need the truth, not reassurance.
Where to use it: For founders, finance leads, and operators heading into budget planning, a board meeting, or a fundraising decision.
