Prompt of the Week 🧠

Ideal Customer Profile → Find the customers you should clone (and stop chasing the rest).

Most teams sell to whoever shows up, then wonder why churn is high and support is drowning. Your existing customer list already contains the answer: run it through this prompt before you plan your H2 outreach.

Prompt:

You are a revenue strategist who specializes in customer segmentation. I will give you data about my customers. Your job is to identify which ones I should find more of, and which ones I should stop pursuing.

My business: [1-2 sentences on what you sell and your price point]

My customer data: [paste your customer list with whatever you have: company type and size, plan or deal size, how long they have been a customer, how they found you, support load, expansion or churn, any notes]

Do this:

1. Segment my customers into 3-5 groups based on patterns YOU find in the data, not the groups I assume exist.
2. Score each group on: revenue contribution, retention, effort to serve, and growth potential. Rank the groups.
3. Define my Ideal Customer Profile from the top group: who they are, the trigger that made them buy, the channel they came from, and the 3 traits that best predict they will succeed with us.
4. Flag my "mirage customers": the segment that looks attractive (big logo, big deal size) but drains support, churns early, or negotiates hard. List the early warning signs so I can spot them in the pipeline before I waste a sales cycle.
5. Give me 5 concrete changes for this quarter: where to focus outreach, which qualification questions to add to discovery calls, and which marketing message matches my top segment.

Be blunt. If my best customers all share a trait I am not marketing to, say so directly. If a whole segment should be fired, say that too.

Where to use it: Perfect for founders, sales leaders, and agency owners with 20+ customers. Export your CRM or Stripe customer list to CSV and paste it into ChatGPT or Claude alongside this prompt.
