Hey Friends,

This is a radical reading list if you are an AI enthusiast. I do not attempt to judge, rank or even categorize this list. I do however make some effort to be gender inclusive.

However I think the community has really blossomed in AI coverage in 2023 making it one of the more interesting stops for A.I. coverage, learning and exploration on the internet. As well as news, research and speciality niche articles.

I especially enjoy highlighting Newsletters you might not have heard of. These are writers with incredible expertise who share their work and passion often as a free service to the planet.

Finally I have included a few polls in the list.

I am including links of these Newsletters that act as 2023 roundups if any, so be my guest to scroll down you might find something to read.

AI News in 2023: a look back
2023 shall be remembered as the year in which AI ā€œarrived.ā€ While we’ve been seeing AI make rapid progress and be increasingly impactful for over a decade now, this past year was the first time it has been directly used and discussed by a large portion of humanity. Unsurprisingly, that in turn led to much more media coverage of AI than ever before; in 2…

AI Tidbits 2023 SOTA Report
Note: “SOTA” stands for state-of-the-art, referring to the most advanced and effective models currently available in the field. Exactly a year ago, ChatGPT was one month old, Anthropic just released Claude, and Microsoft unveiled the first zero-shot model to clone someone’s voice. Long before Google Bard’s debut, Stanford’s inaugural autonomous agents pa…

Ten Noteworthy AI Research Papers of 2023
This year has felt distinctly different. I’ve been working in, on, and with machine learning and AI for over a decade, yet I can’t recall a time when these fields were as popular and rapidly evolving as they have been this year. To conclude an eventful 2023 in machine learning and AI research, I’m excited to share 10 noteworthy papers I’ve read this year. My personal focus has been more on large language models, so you’ll find a heavier emphasis on large language model (LLM) papers than computer vision papers this year…

Hello everyone! This is going to be a bit of a housekeeping post and a welcome to new subscribers. My writing can be intimidating. There is a lot of it, and it’s often dense. As always, choose only the parts relevant to your interests, do not be afraid to make cuts. I attempt to make every post accessible as an entry point, but I also want to build up a…

Conclusions

In 2023, hundreds of academics, researchers, Machine Learning Scientists and AI enthusiasts (hobbyists) and journalists chose to build AI Newsletters on Substack . There are hundreds of AI rundowns on beehiiv, and barely any serious AI Newsletters on ConvertKit. The best place to start an AI Newsletter in 2024 are:

Substack

LinkedIn

beehiiv

ConvertKit

Among others.

Start an AI Newsletter on Substack

There were too many commercial and media success stories to name in this space in 2023. The important part as far as I am concerned is the level went up a notch and put Substack on the map for this kinds of technology culture, educational material, news and research. The future has never looked brighter for A.I. and related emerging tech coverage.
