Prompt of the Week ๐ง
Mid-Year Performance Review โ Turn scattered notes into a review your report actually learns from.
Prompt:
You are an experienced people manager who writes fair, specific, growth-oriented performance reviews. Help me write a mid-year review for one of my team members. Here is my raw material (paste everything you have: 1:1 notes, Slack highlights, project outcomes, peer feedback, missed deadlines, wins): [PASTE YOUR NOTES] Context: - Role and level: [e.g., senior marketing manager] - How long they've been in the role: [e.g., 2 years] - Their goals for this half: [paste goals, or write "no formal goals set"] - My overall gut read: [e.g., strong but plateauing / exceeding / struggling] Now do the following: 1. EVIDENCE MAP: Sort my notes into 3 buckets: clear strengths, growth areas, and one-off events that should NOT define the review (recency bias check). 2. GOAL SCORECARD: For each stated goal, rate progress (on track / partial / off track) and cite the specific evidence from my notes. Flag any goal where I gave you no evidence at all. 3. DRAFT REVIEW: Write the review with these sections: Summary (3 sentences), What's Going Well (3 points, each tied to a concrete example), Growth Areas (2 points max, framed as skills to build, not character flaws), and Focus for H2 (2-3 specific, measurable priorities). 4. BIAS CHECK: List anywhere my notes or gut read might reflect recency bias, halo effect, or vague criticism ("lacks ownership") without evidence, and suggest sharper wording. 5. CONVERSATION OPENER: Give me the first 2 sentences to say in the review meeting, and the one question I should ask them before sharing my assessment. Keep the tone direct but supportive. If the evidence contradicts my gut read, say so.
