Hey Everyone,

I am impressed with Nvidia’s conduct since not just entering the BigTech “magnificent seven” but outpacing them in market cap and revenue growth. At the time of writing Nvidia’s market cap is 3.46 Trillion. They report earnings on November 20th.

The elephant in the room for the future of AI, is actually India. Let me explain:

With the faltering of China’s economy, the state-driven curtailing of their own BigTech firms and an unprecedented exodus of foreign investors after poor diplomatic leadership by China, India seems inevitably the heir apparent.

The years ahead and the AI movement itself might be very telling for India’s future. The geopolitics of tech today is like nothing we have seen in recent memory. India needs to earn a bigger place on the world stage.

Actually 2024 has been a major year of preparation for India that has one of the youngest workforces in the future of technology globally. There’s also a new kind of momentum. Recently Nvidia’s GPU deployment in the India is nearly nearly 10x compared to 18 months ago. While the median age of India is expected to increase from 24 years in 2021 to 28-29 years in 2023-24, it is still one of the youngest nations in the world. But will the AI revolution supercharge India’s growth? Well that’s up to India.

China’s industrial profits plunged at the fastest pace since the pandemic with a struggling real estate sector and this economic malaise combined with youth unemployment looks like policy failure at an unimaginable scale. After a 17.8% fall in August, industrial profits declined 27.1% in September from a year ago, marking the steepest plunge since March 2020, which saw a 34.9% drop, according to data kept by Wind Information.

There are geopolitical forces at work and ChatGPT’s arrival two years ago has created a Generative AI boom that will benefit India directly and for years to come. On October 24th, 2024 Nvidia announced a slew of partnerships with major Indian firms and launched a Hindi language model. This is only the beginning. The size of India and its demographics are significantly in its favor.

Nvidia’s surging revenue will allow it to help support and super-charge India’s infrastructure to be more AI ready. Nvidia is working with Reliance to develop a 1-gigawatt AI infrastructure center in Gujarat, leveraging India’s vast IT ecosystem to support next-gen applications. Nvidia also announced Nemotron-4-Mini-Hindi 4B, a small language model in Hindi — the widest-spoken of India’s multitude of languages.

India’s youth, skilled IT workforce, American-Indian CEOs at powerful firms and the AI boom along with various Indian Tech tycoons who already work with American BigTech are all going to converge rather favorably for India in the next decade or two. Apple and TSMC are also pivoting to India.

In late February, 2024 India approved a plan to allocate up to $15.2 billion (1.26 trillion Indian rupees) to build three new semiconductor plants, including its first semiconductor fab facility — part of the country’s big bid to take on China, Taiwan and other countries in the chip race. East Asian collaboration with India in the semiconductor industry has already had a big 2024. All of this could drastically increase in the foreseeable future.
