Hello Everyone,
This Newsletter is for AI enthusiasts but some of us also grew up reading science fiction. I’d like to do a monthly feature displaying the work of a fiction writer in science-fiction.
Due to the difficult of some fiction writers to gain an audience, it is hoped this feature can bring more readers to emerging sci-fi writers on Substack and beyond.
This is a call-out for requests from sci-fi writers on themes including:
Short sci-fi stories, with themes like:
Dystopia (e.g. post nucleur, alien invasion, societal collapse, dark age)
Post-apocalyptic (see above)
Future depictions of social issues like inequality, monopoly capitalism, environmental changes, water scarcity, access to transhumanitic enhancements, access to affordable water, energy and food. (emphasis on ‘realistic’)
Realistic depictions of future advancements in brain-computer-interfaces, robotics, quantum computing, synthetic biology and AI.
Depictions of the colonization of Mars, geopolitical tensions, national rivalries in space, etc…
Depictions of the manifestation of emerging technologies and new unthought of technologies (emphasis on realism).
Explorations of sociological problems and psychological tensions of characters that impact different ways of thinking about humanity, e.g. alternative histories, new alliance, new empires, new inter-planetary dynamics
Short stories that depict realistic changes to the macro economy, inflation, new forms of collective units (post families, e.g. “binding multiple” )
New cultural movements, new religions, new depictions of post-work realities, new utopian constructs that have dystopian elements, (e.g. surveillance, lack of privacy, lack of human rights, lack of free-will, lack of self-determinism)
Explorations of new political variations on socialism, authoritarianism, corporate hegemony and realistic alternative political and quasi religious institutions.
Example of a Writer that fits this might be:
See this note for the author’s name and work.
To Summarize
I’m interested especially in strong work of Science fiction, preferably with themes relating to, among others: climate change, geopolitical tension, dystopia, monopoly capitalism, post-apocalyptic scenarios, alternative history, Mars, featuring significant technological knowledge of quantum computing, robotics, biotech, synthetic biology, AI and projecting emerging technology realistically in the future.
In short, I’m looking for believable variations on sci-fi based on a realistic projection of future technological trends, sociological tensions and social classes based on a realistic projection of emerging technologies.
Exploration of Real Technologies Projected into the Future
Brain computer interfaces (BCI)
Robotics
AI, Agentic AI, Ambient IoT, Machine economy
Quantum computing
Biotech and Synthetic biology
New forms of culture and or sociological forms of individualism, new forms of socialism
New sources of energy, e.g. Nuclear Fusion
Space-Technology new forms of colonization in the solar system
New forms of national and inter-planetary rivalry
Corporate Hegemonies, i.e. the idea that corporations become more influential than Nation states in the future
Depictions of communities on Mars, Asteroid mining colonies, Residential rings, etc…
And so many others, TBA.
How to Submit
To submit an entry for this special kind of guest post / guest contribution, submit a pitch in a DM on LinkedIn go a Google doc where anybody can make comments. Substack DMs will not be reviewed (due to lack of time).
I’m hoping to do a monthly feature in this section of my Newsletter.
Format
The short stories can be any length, preferably fairly long, even over a 30-min read.
Must have an audio format either narrated by the author or by a cloned voice, e.g. Eleven Labs. These will be embedder at the top, for those readers who prefer audio book experiences. (very preferable for sci-fi stories imho!)
Must include a bio/pitch by the author (like a condensed summary of their about page). I will sometimes write an introduction.
Must include between 3 to 5 links of their best Newsletter articles.
Must include a great Title and Subtitle.
Must be easy to ready in terms of spacing for mobile readers.
Must include very high level AI generated images. This will count fairly high in my quick evaluation of submissions.
The work should include some fairly great character development to hook the reader right away.
This is a future series on Sci-fi stories, occasionally published on AI Supremacy and Artificial Intelligence Report. May 11th, 2024.
